Where does the name “Anura” come from?

‘Anura’ is the name for the order/classification of frogs and toads after they’ve matured out of their tails in the final stage of Metamorphosis.

The origins of the word Metamorphose lie in the Greek ‘meta,’ or "change," and morphe, "form."
Our entire lifespan is one long metamorphosis, but even within a year, a season, a moon cycle, a day, and an hour we go through substantial change, holding ourselves as a chrysalis in the middle of the life-long journey of evolution.

As a carrier and servant of frog medicine, the name ‘Anura’ was shown to me in a plant ceremony - She arrived in front of me, looking me straight in the eyes as my highest form of Self, showing me my greatest potential.

As she looked at me, she unveiled a vision: I’m standing on stage in front of an audience speaking about a book that I had written called “Metamorphosis: A story of Unlearning.”

The highest potential and most wise version of myself, Anura, looked at me and said,

“Are you going to have the self-discipline to get here?”

Through my own evolution with Kambo and plant medicines, and being a part of the Metamorphosis of those who come to sit with me and these beautiful medicines, the name Anura and the journey of transformation hold so much of who we can become.

The Potential, the Power, the Poise.

This state and the embodiment of it are my guides when I’m up high or down low.

I’ve now adopted and normalized this name beyond a DJ name into my daily embodiment of Who I Be.

Anura is always at my third eye, wearing gold.

There is a grand awakening happening in the world.

An existential wondering.

My Journey

Like so many others, I spent years making all the motions of life, unconsciously numb and completely disconnected from my body, my intuition, my sovereignty, and my potential. At 29 years old, I experienced what’s known as “Saturn Returns,” and everything I had identified myself with was stripped from under me when I received a breakup text one morning saying,

“Don’t come back to London, I’ll mail your stuff.”

Suddenly, I was forced to look at myself and question who I was without the boyfriend, the traveling business partnership, the dog, and everything I had become so comfortable with. After a month sleeping on a friend’s couch, binge-watching the ‘Lost’ series with my teddy bear and red wine, I set out on an adventure, picking up where I had left off, and returning to Bali where, after meeting him almost two years earlier, I had changed my plans.

The decision to go back to Bali catapulted me on a spiritual adventure and led me into life’s labyrinth with trust and intuition. My 500hr yoga teacher training was the launching point from which I ended up attending a wedding and becoming a seasonal resident in Thailand, becoming a festival-regular, opening my eyes to communities like Burning Man and the normalization of being naked, exploring the Andes mountains while diving into shamanic teachings of plant medicine in Peru, learning from the indigenous wisdom keepers of the jungle, living in a Van on the festival circuit in the US and eventually leading me back to Thailand where I buckled down for the chaos of 2020.

I stayed almost two years on an island during the majority of the pandemic, spending that time fine-tuning and leveling up my offerings.

This is where Anura came to life and stands before me as my Highest Goal to achieve in the learning and unlearning of all the ways I’ve been taught, and all the patterns I had unconsciously created within myself and the way I relate to the world around me.

Recently relocated from Koh Phangan, Thailand back to my hometown of Richmond, Virginia, I’m here to serve The Great Shift, to help us to remember how to care for all sentient beings, to reclaim ourselves and our power, and to stand up for creating a more harmonious way of nature-based living on our planet.

I serve as a multi-dimensional somatic guide within safe ceremonial spaces, easing a transition out of the mind and back into the body, moving through any present struggles and challenges and conjuring up the ignition of our internal light, power, and potential, to rise up and Lead the Change.

In each somatic session or medicine ceremony, I weave together spacious ambient frequencies, sounds of nature, medicine music, and elemental aspects through a variety of songs, sounds and silence to create journeys for the soul to return home to truth and infinite bliss.

It can be feminized as Nura, as well An-Nur, means "a piece of light.”
