In many indigenous cultures, tobacco is considered a “Master Teacher Plant.”

Tobacco ‘snuff’ is a sacred shamanic tool that has been used by tribes of the Amazon basin for thousands of years and is an essential part of their tribal culture and history. Rapé is the name for one of these snuffs, and its origins lie with numerous indigenous tribes in Brazil.

The spirit of tobacco offers many potential benefits for energetic clearing, realignment, and protection when used with respect and good intentions. Shamans and elders of rainforest and jungle tribes go through a tobacco “dieta” or cleansing by drinking tobacco for many days in a row to connect deeply with the spirit of the plant.

In the western world, we tend to think of tobacco negatively and in relation to cigarettes and addiction. We have turned to smoking as a means of dealing with stress, anxiety, or avoiding certain situations. This has created an addiction in our culture, where the sanctity and true spirit of tobacco has been lost, forgotten, and neglected.

In this sacred plant ceremony, I connect with the spirit of tobacco, offering prayers and stating my intentions and the intentions of the receiver. It is a finely ground mixture of the ash of tobacco, flowers, tree barks, and other plants, administered by being blown into the nostrils through a pipe called a Tepi.

Immediately the effects are felt in the head, and the sitter is brought completely to the present moment, clearing thoughts and mind chatter as the medicine drops down into the body, inducing a calming, clearing, grounding sensation and enabling the receiver to enter a beautiful, thoughtless meditation process.

Rapéh is also used in ceremonies such as Kambo or Ayahuasca to remove blocked energies and induce a purgative effect if one is struggling or looping.

Rapéh can be served individually as a ceremony, or together in other ceremonies with Sananga, Kambo, Psilocybin, or Grandmother Ayahuasca.
